Brazil were the absolute favorites going in to this World Cup. In Brazil's first four games of this tournament, despite criticism that they weren't playing up to their full potential, they got excellent results (Four wins, zero losses, zero ties. Scoring ten goals, and allowing just one)..... But these records changed in their fifth game.

So I'm just curious to read different theories: what went wrong for Brazil?

I don't know myself what went wrong for Brazil. But I'd like to point something out. Look at who the favorites were going into each of the last few World Cups:

2006 - Brazil
2002 - France / Argentina
1998 - Brazil
1994 - Germany
1990 - Italy
1986 - Brazil
1982 - Brazil

So the favorites going into the tournament have never actually gone on to win it all in recent memory... And it seems like from 1994 on, people have always been assuming the current World Cup holder would repeat lifting the trophy. But that's only happened twice in history (Italy in 1934 & 1938, and Brazil in 1958 & 1962).
