To those that think a racist comment has no material impact on the lives of people, sauf maybe annoying someone. It has NO place in football, or really any context for that matter.

As to how racism ACTUALLY does cause numerous sufferings beyond what many simply believe is superficial verbal abuse. Start with the writings of Emile Durkheim and Modernization theory, then go onto to Dependencia Theoriests, and then Structural Violence by J. Galtung and Gurr. Basically you wil see, if you take the time to research a little bit - and I hope you do - that the vocabulary people use and the thoughts we use to classify, perceive, and identify other people has a PROFOUND impact on reality in terms of how society's institutes are structured. A bit extreme example but a very logical extension is the way 1500-1800s Europeans thought Africans were "animals and barbarians", they were routinly called awful things that ultimately installed a sense of justifcation for slavery and inhumane treatment, later when slavery was abolished it still meant Africans could not easily find jobs, got paid less, were thought dangerous..this can keep going. I hope you see the point that a simple word actually has much deeper implications because ultimately it is absorbed into the way people think and then they construct reality in MATERIAL terms around those thoughts. Do look into it you feel so adimate that racial words have no signifance.

You dont have to expand it too long. To make it short, the person who started "thought crime" reply on the other thread is one ignorant halfwit.

But Zidane himself never even claimed Materazzi said anything racist. In contrast, Zidane actually stressed to FIFA that there was no racism in what Materazzi said, but rather Materazzi said something nasty about Zidane‘s sister and mother.

The idea that Materazzi said something racist to Zidane was purely made up by people biased against Italians, who would like to believe Zidane’s actions were more justified than they were.
