Rooney stood on the guys bollocks. Rooney had two basically holding onto him, BOTH of whom had kicked him in the legs in the jostling for the ball that occurred imediately prior to the "incident". It would not have been unreasonable for Rooney to have been awarded a free kick for either of the fouls committed on him. If you watch the incident, it is only in trying to maintain his balance that he steps backward and onto the Uruk-hai's groin.
Was Ronaldo supposed to keep his mouth shut because they play together at club level?? C.Ronaldo was supposed to not even be there, getting in the Ref's face like a foul cheating, maggot. Such gamesmanship as artfully demonstrated by Portugal (as they can't win anything fair & square, or engage in anything normally or honestly for that matter) will kill Football eventually. It is not so much the fact that England lost, to be honest with you. Indeed, the squad Eriksson put together, and the strategy put into its construction, was pretty lame given he put 5 years into it. It is the way England were defeated that rankles. That wasn't sport, it just wasn't "cricket". I mean, if I want to watch stage-managed theatresque competitions, I can tune into WWF wrestling. Football is not evolving in a very healthy direction by rewarding and encouraging such behaviours. It sometimes seems FIFA will sacrifice all principle, and even the spirit of fair play, a fundamental element to Sporting Competition itself, to their semi-retarded fixation with "Joga Bonito".
