What do Americans know about Football (Soccer). Well, let me tell you. The majority of American children play Soccer before they play any other sport. I myself played 12 years of soccer from the age of 5 through High School. The sport is taken seriously by very many in the US, and there's OBVIOUSLY alot of talented US players. Its just not a widely regarded sport in the US as of now (i.e., not major TV in the US), but to pretend that we don't know soccer when the majority of us played the sport is ludicrous. We may not follow soccer to the extreme as we do american football or basketball, but times are changing. American Football is king in the US, but many are losing touch with basketball, and US soccer is growing.
So what ever you call it, Soccer or Football, we (the U.S.) love the sport and take it serious. I believe '98 was a fluke (we were definitely not the worst team in the tournament), and this cup we're showing that we have some talented players. We've beaten the 5th ranked team in the world, took a point from Korea, and now beat Mexico (who won their group). Mexico has disrepected us for years, but since 1990 we've gone 9-6-5 with them. Maybe we should start disrespecting them!
