Football or Soccer? IT'S BOTH! Quote | Reply

This was originally a reply to another topic, but I thought I should tell others so they know. I just copied and pasted it from the other topic, replies are welcome.

Seems i'll have to give these uneducated euros a lesson on not being idiots. They are not even aware of where the name originates from, and how they are in part responsible for it being called soccer.
First off, the full name of soccer or football, whatever you call it, is "Association Football."
Not football or soccer. Now, football is not one particular sport, it is any sport that you use your foot or feet in, as simple as that. That is why the full name of other sports are "Rugby Football", "American Football", and so on.
Now, in europe, back in the 1800's, Rugby grew quite popular and was eventually introduced to the USA, where it also grew quite popular. After time though, variations of the game began to form, and soon these variations changed the game so much, that it was no longer rugby. From there, two different sports were formed, though similar. Canadian and American Football. The full name of rugby was of course rugby football, which was shortened to rugby. The new sports could not be shortened to only the first word, since they were Canadian and American. You wouldn't say, "let's play American guys!" So instead they shortened it to football. Now, later on a new sport was introduced to the USA, known as football in Europe. The full name was Association Football. Though there was a problem, a sport by the same name was already widely popular in the USA. They couldn't just change the name of this sport, so they had to give a new name to this Association Football. So instead of using the second word, they used the first word, "Association", and from that word, as I hope you can see the similarities, came soccer.
So before you go spouting out idiotic statements claiming the stupid F***ing yanks call it soccer, first try become educated, and do not choose the path of being an idiotic moron please. Thank you for your time, and I apologize to the Europeans who are not idiots like many on this forum.

Also it must be mentioned that Americans took the game of rugby and destroyed it. American Football is the worst sport on earth. You have a bunch of fat a$$es that stand there. and the play lasts on average about 4 seconds. not a sport and not entertaining.
